Vintage Piaget Polo Skeleton 18K Gold Diamond Stem Wind Wristwatch
Ultra-thin skeletonized movement with engraved bridges and wheels in an 18K yellow gold case with diamonds accentuated edge of the dial.
Signed Piaget leather and 18K buckle clasp.
Piaget is one of my favourite watch makers, and this watch will demonstrate why.
For a start. Piaget is one of the top designers of watches and one that has mastered the art of the ultra-thin watch. I know a lot of you have gotten used to huge watches with bulky cases but there is something to be said for a watch that has a case that is extraordinarily thin. Comfort for instance.
Most Piaget watches are attractive but few are over the top. It is a conservative company but one thing that they do, and do extraordinarily well is dress watches that are breath taking.
On top of that, they on occasion have created skeleton watches and combined that art form with their ability to create ultra thin cases.
This skeleton is one of those. It is from the 1980s and has fared very well as far as condition is concerned.
It is also one of the most amazing watches I have ever come across. The movement is not only entirely visible and of microscopic precision, but all of the parts are ornamented and engraved. It is a feast for the eye. The diamonds tastefully arranged about the face give it even more appeal.
I spent at least an hour picking it up and putting it down, each time looking at it again with a magnifying glass. It is sublime.
Amusingly I received a Rolex Daytona 6241 in the same shipment and despite its immense value, I hardy gave it more than a cursory look.
Of all the watches I have purchased in the last two years, this is my hands down favourite, and that is really saying something. (Yes, I have likely said it before about other watches, but it is going to take a lot to butt this watch off the top of my favourties list, it is that amazing)
Expensive, as it should be, but not a watch that will ever be worth a penny less that you pay for it and assuredly and eventually, much more.
It is also very, very rare and that is never a bad thing with a watch from a major house like Piaget.
