Sometimes, wow! is your first reaction to seeing an amazing piece of art. As mundane as it is I have to admit that it was my first response when seeing a Degas painting of a footlight-lit ballerina, hanging in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

Beforehand, having seen many Degas in books and as cheap prints, I had never paid much attention.  But in a gallery full of sublime paintings, that one stood out as a masterpiece, an artwork with the power to move something inside almost all of us.

My first look at this watch elicited much the same reaction. It is true it is much smaller and it would not make much of an impression hanging on a gallery wall, but in the right setting, like on a ladies wrist at a formal event, wow!
