Girard Perregaux for Ferrari 18 Karat Yellow Gold

As of late there has been a multitudinous selection of Ferrari watches appearing in every mall and corner store it seems. Many of these are quite cheap and many of them are knock offs that have not paid their licensing fees to Ferrari but very few are watches actually commissioned by Ferrari itself.

This Gerrard Perregaux is one of the very few watches commissioned by Ferrari from a major Swiss manufacturer of high quality timepieces.

After careful consideration, Perregaux was selected from many Swiss manufacturers to create a series of high-end designs bearing the prancing horse.

This watch was created in 18k gold in 1995 and is superb, as all Perregaux watches are, but with the added benefit of carrying the Ferrari prancing horse on the watch fac. It is engraved on the back cover as well and comes in a lovely wooden box with the Ferrari logo on the lid to add icing to the cake.

The only downside to this magnificent horological wonder is the cushioning material used in the box breaks down into little white flakes. This is not just an issue with Perregaux’s boxing, I have a Corum box and a Hublot box which share the same deteriorating material.

That said, once you have the watch you rarely ever see or use the original packaging so it is really a small thing.

I have my own Ferrari watch that I purchased from a vendor at Retromobile many years ago. It was about three hundred dollars at the time but was not a Perregaux. I wish it were. In comparison, there is no comparison between the two.

Would I buy this watch? Absolutely and in fact I did. I certainly would not buy the other ever again. Wil I keep this watch. I would like to but I can’t keep everything I buy to resell, as much as I might like to, or the whole spirit of this new endeavor will be crushed like a snail on a highway.

I can tell you one thing. I will miss it when it is gone.
