14K Pendant Featuring Spanish Silver "Reale" Cob Coin with Skull and Crossbones

To be honest I do not often buy 14 kt gold jewelry unless it is exceptional, but this clearly fits that bill.

As soon as I saw it I knew I had to acquire it. It has both a real historical background and great looks as a wonderfully playful piece of jewelry.

This Reale dates from the days of swashbuckling pirates and treasure laden Spanish galleons.

It is framed in 14kt as a pendant and as you can see it is adorned with a gold skull and crossbones, a very fitting ornamentation.

The Reale was the standard currency of the Spanish adventurers in the New World and is more famous by its other name, Pieces of Eight. The reason the Reale earned the name Pieces of Eight is that it was the equivalent of a dollar in its day and age. To make smaller purchases you could cut your Reale into eight pieces and present those as legal tender.

This is a great piece that you can have a lot of fun wearing and I am sure will bring a treasure chest full of compliments.

Cheers,
